Today was a hot day, with a lot of sun, temperatures at 91 degrees. We heard news about Nevada climate change: they’re getting rid of grass. It said that grass was one of Nevada’s large uses of water, according to the Las Vegas Water Athority.
To help reduce water usage, the city of Las Vegas has ripped out around four million square feet of grass. Within a few months to a year, all of the city’s grass will be gone and the city is installing a new irrigation system. Because trees and vegetation wasted a lot of water, the new irrigation system will make sure there is no wasted water.
Also, the city has built a new pipe system around the area, since some of the lake pipes were sticking out of the water. The new pipes are along the lake floor, so Las Vegas can use every last drop of Lake Mead.
Even though we will no longer be able to see the grass of Nevada, we are glad people are taking the measurements they need to stop climate change. Our goal is to be able to keep grass without having to worry about water.
